Authorise mobile money direct debit

An approved customer must authorise a supported mobile money wallet before placing a BNPL order.

Why authorisation is requested

CanPay currently requires a validated mobile money direct-debit mandate before an approved customer places a new BNPL order. This is separate from paying the first instalment. The app shows whether the mandate is authorised or pending.

Authorise the wallet

  1. Save a supported mobile money provider and number in your financial details.
  2. Start Direct Debit Authorisation from the account flow.
  3. Approve the provider request. MTN or Vodafone/Telecel may use an OTP or a USSD prompt.
  4. For OTP, enter the code only inside the CanPay authorisation screen. For USSD, approve on the handset and return to confirm.
  5. Wait until the app reports that direct debit is authorised, then retry checkout.

Supported wallets and pending requests

The current direct-debit flow supports MTN and Vodafone/Telecel mobile money. If a session expires, start again. If you already approved but the status is pending, wait briefly and use the confirmation action before starting another request.

Important: Authorising a mandate does not mean every requested charge or purchase is approved. Never approve an unexpected provider prompt, and never reveal its OTP or mobile money PIN.
